LA///THE DATE FARMERS x NEW IMAGE ART
The Date Farmers came in from the California desert (where their family farms dates) long enough to debut an impressive show of new work, "Nadie Me Quiere" (Nobody Loves Me) at West Hollywood's New Image Art gallery on Saturday nite. Drawing inspiration from modern Mexican street art & graphics, Chicano lowrider, jail & gang culture, Catholic iconography and traditional Mexican & Indian crafts, the boys blend their influences into a postmodern amalgam that they execute with ease. Working collaboratively, the two channel their vision into pieces executed on a variety of found objects from wood paneling to sections of corrugated metal, passing off painting duties one to another at will. The end result is an incredibly varied output that represents a unique example of modern Chicano art. As if that weren't enough, they're some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Some people just have it all...
Rounding out the show was an installation by fellow artist Gary Garay replicating a traditional Mexican zapateria with handmade cardboard shoes, boots & sandals surrounded by paintings and a customized Mexican helado cart...
The show runs through September 9, proceed to New Image Art ASAP...

NEWS///THE "GNOTORIOUS" B.I.G...
GNARLS BIGGIE
In the circle of life, everything comes back around again, as is the case with the new posthumous supergroup "Gnarls Biggie". Much like Dangermouse jumpstarted his career by blending Jay-Z's "Black Album" with the Beatles' eponymous "White Album", before moving on to found Gnarls Barkley, Brooklyn-based duo Sound Advice (aka: Elsewhere & K. Ross) have mashed-up their hometown hero's oeuvre with Gnarls Barkley's debut disc "St. Elsewhere" to create the hybrid album "Gnotorious". Of course, the whole thing is illegal as hell and not commercially available, but for now the album exists online for your listening pleasure at Gnotorious.com. Grab it without leaving a trail on Limewire by downloading Wiretap for free, recording the tracks as you listen & importing the files into iTunes...

Rappers Supreeme were on hand to keep the painted bodies rockin into the wee hours. Let's just say these were the most "legal" photos from the nite...

NYC street art legend & Rock Steady Crew member Doze Green, who gave these two pages an extra dose of the mystical creative energy that he travels the world in wild pursuit of. Known primarily for his epic expressive paintings, it's in Doze's pen & ink work that the fine subtleties of his masterful linestyle come to light.
